The PA 4R Alliance is hosting a three-part webinar series focused on the value of on-farm field trials.  The concept of on-farm trials has been around for decades, with farmers placing rows or strips of different practices within their fields for comparison.  Ultimately, properly designed on-farm trials are used to predict responses to products, practices and technologies when used in the same or neighboring fields.  This webinar series will showcase how researchers from Penn State, an agronomist working across Pennsylvania, and a local farmer are advancing this valuable practice.  The final session will showcase a presenter panel discussion.

CCA credits and Act 38 nutrient management credits are available.

October 11thJoin us as two experts from Penn State share their field trial experiences. Dr. Charles White has worked with a variety of farmers to conduct on-farm research on nitrogen recommendations for corn, cover crop and soil health management, and precision fertility management.  Dr. Paul Esker currently leads the Pennsylvania Soybean On-Farm Network that advances on-farm participatory research, field monitoring and scouting, and educational-extension programming.

October 18th: Join us as Eric Rosenbaum, the Executive Director of the PA 4R Alliance and an Agronomist and Regulatory Consultant for Rosetree Consulting providing crop scouting, nutrient modeling, and data management services for 25 years, shares his experience working with farmers across the state to implement field trials that evaluate the benefits of manure injection, split and variable rate nitrogen applications, as well as different tillage practices.

October 25th:  Join us for our final session to learn first hand from a local farmer about their experiences advancing field trials on a local PA-based farm.  The farmer will share the value, the challenges, and opportunities they see for using field trials as a tool on their farm operation.  This session will wrap up with a panel discussion, bringing back experts from previous sessions, to explore how researchers, crop consultants, and farmers can work together to advance field trials with impact.
